Re: Hillary showing tears today
I got a slew of different responses when I asked Pownce users about Hillary showing emotion today. It’s interesting in a lot of ways. Some people hate her guts and think it’s uncharacteristic and insincere for her to tear up like that in public. Other people think she’s trying to appeal to the Obama audience but is failing miserably.
All this time I haven’t chosen a candidate to back; in my opinion Obama sounds good but does not have my confidence when it comes to being able to get things done if he gets to the White House. He has not built up the right networks, and spewing “hope” and “change” at the politicians on the Hill will not convince them to pass the bills he wants. Hillary also doesn’t have a helluva lot of experience either, but for a few reasons, I emphasize with her. I can understand her ambition and her deep desire to be elected, and through that, I can understand why she tries so hard to play to the middle. I read somewhere that the Hillary Clinton during her Wellesley years would have supported Obama—and that’s probably true but in no way a bad reflection on her, in my opinion. Somehow, and this is totally irrational I’ll admit, I think that Hillary probably doesn’t agree with a lot of the policy she puts out, and that in reality she is much more liberal than she has claimed to be, if only to seem more “electable.” The difference is that she (in coordination with the connections Bill has) would probably be able to get more done than Obama could.
I think today’s show of emotion should not be judged as insincere; given her current position in the polls in NH, those seemed like genuine emotions. I feel a bit sorry for her and find it ridiculous that people would laugh at her misfortune. It was silly of Edwards to criticize her for “weakness” — if a president doesn’t admit weakness or flaws, then we might as well have another eight years of Dubya Bush.
Although it’s weird to defend someone some people really despise (I still can’t figure out why there’d be hatred involved … it’s not like Hillary killed their mothers, or maybe she did, I don’t know), I am really still undecided about who I should support in the Democratic race. I have until Super Tuesday to decide, but I have a feeling the decision will be made for me by the end of tomorrow. I also have a feeling that no matter the result, I will be disappointed in American democracy.
